The right basin can transform your bathroom from a functional space into a personal sanctuary. It's not just a place for washing hands; it's a statement of your style, a testament to your discerning taste. A well-chosen basin commands attention, drawing the eye with its elegant design. It piques interest, inviting you to appreciate its unique features and quality materials.
Imagine a basin that nicely matches your bathroom decor, enhancing its aesthetic appeal. It evokes a desire for a luxurious, spa-like experience right in your home. The right basin can make your bathroom more spacious, organised and sophisticated. It can help create a serene, calming atmosphere, turning your bathroom into a haven of relaxation.
Choosing the right basin is not just about picking a random sink that fits into your bathroom. It's about finding a basin that complements your space, meets your needs and adds a touch of style to your bathroom décor. With an array of styles, materials and designs available in the market, making the right choice can seem daunting. However, by considering certain factors, you can simplify this process and find an ideal basin.
Size matters when selecting the best basin for your bathroom. It's not just about ensuring the basin fits within your bathroom's physical dimensions - it's about creating a balanced, harmonious space where every element complements the other.
The size of your bathroom basin should be proportionate to the other elements in the room. This fundamental principle of interior design ensures all room components work together to create a cohesive aesthetic.
Imagine a large basin in a small, compact bathroom. It might seem like a grand statement, but it could make the room feel even more cramped and claustrophobic. The oversized basin could dominate the space, overshadowing other elements and disrupting the room's overall balance.
On the other hand, placing a small, understated basin in a large, spacious bathroom can have a similar effect. The basin might get lost in the expansive space, making it seem insignificant or out of place. It could also make the bathroom feel incomplete.
To avoid these pitfalls, it's crucial to consider the size of your bathroom and the scale of its other elements when selecting a basin. Measure the available space carefully and consider how the basin will interact with other aspects like the bathtub, shower or toilet. Think about the basin's visual weight and how it will affect the overall composition of the room.
The chosen bathroom basin style is an integral aspect of your bathroom design that deserves careful consideration. With an array of options at your disposal, including pedestal, wall-mounted, countertop and under-mount bathroom basins, your choice can significantly influence your bathroom's aesthetic appeal. For example, with its timeless elegance, a pedestal basin can infuse your space with a classic allure that never goes out of style. It exudes a sense of grandeur and tradition, making it a good choice for those who appreciate the charm of bygone eras.
On the other hand, a wall-mounted basin, with its clean lines and uncluttered design, can give your bathroom a contemporary, minimalistic look. Its sleek form and innovative design can transform your bathroom into a modern sanctuary, reflecting an appreciation for simplicity and cutting-edge design. Therefore, choosing the right basin style is not just about functionality but also about expressing your style and enhancing the overall aesthetic of your bathroom.
Choosing a basin for your bathroom involves more than just picking a design that catches your eye. The material of the basin plays a significant role in its durability, maintenance and aesthetic appeal. Let’s delve into the characteristics of five common basin materials: river stone, ceramic, glass, marble and wood.
River stone: River stone basins bring a touch of nature into your bathroom. Each basin is unique, boasting its colours, patterns and textures. Riverstone is highly durable and can withstand daily use without showing much wear and tear. However, it requires regular sealing to prevent water absorption and staining.
Ceramic: Ceramic basins are popular for their sleek, clean look and easy maintenance. They are resistant to stains, scratches and mildew, making them ideal for busy bathrooms. However, they can chip or crack if not handled carefully.
Glass: Glass basins offer a modern and sophisticated look. They are available in various colours and designs, allowing you to customise your bathroom décor. While glass basins are easy to clean, they can show water spots and fingerprints, requiring frequent cleaning.
Marble: Marble basins exude elegance. No two marble basins are alike, each featuring unique veining and colouring.
Wood: Wooden basins add a warm and natural touch to your bathroom. They are usually coated with a waterproof sealant to prevent water damage.
Finally, it's vital to consider the basin's practicality and usability. This is particularly important if you have a large family or the bathroom is constantly used. In such cases, a deep basin could be your best option. The advantage of a deep basin lies in its capacity to hold a larger volume of water, thereby minimising the possibility of water splashing out and creating a mess. This can be a real lifesaver, especially when you're in a hurry or have kids who might need to be more careful while using the basin.
On the other hand, if you use the basin for more than just washing hands - say for shaving or washing your face - you should consider a basin with a wide rim. The wider rim serves a dual purpose. Firstly, it offers additional space to carry out your grooming routine comfortably. You can easily place your shaving kit, face wash or other toiletries on it without worrying about them falling off. Secondly, a wide rim also acts as a buffer, preventing water from spilling over the edge during vigorous washing or shaving.
Are you contemplating a bathroom makeover? While a new basin can give your bathroom a fresh look, there's much more to consider. Beyond the basin, numerous elements can transform your bathroom into a sanctuary of relaxation and rejuvenation.
Consider your lighting: The right lighting can significantly change your bathroom's ambience. Think about installing dimmable lights or a skylight to bathe your bathroom in natural light during the day, creating a tranquil setting to unwind after a long day.
Evaluate your storage options: A clutter-free bathroom is synonymous with tranquillity. Investing in smart storage solutions that keep your toiletries neatly organised yet within easy reach is essential, contributing to a serene and orderly environment.
Pay attention to bathroom fixtures: The smallest details, from taps to towel rails, can infuse a touch of luxury into your bathroom. Choose finishes harmonising with your bathroom design to establish a cohesive and stylish look.
The power of a good shower: Never underestimate the transformative power of a high-pressure shower. It can provide a spa-like experience right in your home, making your bathroom a functional space and a personal sanctuary.
Think about scent: A bathroom that smells good feels cleaner and more inviting. Use scented candles, essential oil diffusers or potpourri to create a pleasing aroma that enhances your bathroom experience.
Choose the right colour palette: Colors significantly influence our mood and perception. For a calming effect, consider using soft, neutral tones or shades of blue and green, known for their soothing properties.
Remember, your bathroom is more than just a functional space. It's a place where you start and end your day. By considering elements beyond the basin, you can create a bathroom that looks good and enhances your daily routine. So, why wait? Start planning your dream bathroom today.
Installing a basin in your bathroom can be pretty straightforward if you take it step-by-step. Below are three common types of basins you’ll find at our store, along with how to install each one. We’ll keep it easy-to-understand and guide you through the basics.
If you’re looking at a space-saving option, then wall mounted basins (also called wall hung basins) are a top choice. These are fixed straight onto the wall, leaving the floor space underneath open. That makes cleaning easier and the room feel larger.
How to install:
Turn off the water supply and remove the old basin (if you’re replacing one). Inspect the plumbing.
Measure the height you want and mark the fixing points on the wall. Use a spirit level so it’s perfectly straight.
Drill and plug the wall appropriate to the wall type (solid, plasterboard, etc). For a wall hung basin you’ll need strong fixings and possibly a support frame behind the wall.
Fit the basin onto the wall brackets or mounting bolts, check again with your level that it’s straight. Connect the waste and tap fittings.
Apply quality silicone sealant where the basin meets the wall. Turn the water back on and check for leaks.
Tip: Because the basin is hanging on the wall, ensure the fixings are rated for the weight and that plumbing connections are properly aligned.
These sit on top of a bench or vanity rather than being mounted to the wall or built into the bench. They create a stylish, modern look. One installation guide says: “Countertop or vessel basins … sit proudly above the counter …”
Make sure the bench surface is strong, level and prepared with the tap hole and waste plumbing ready.
Place the basin in position to check alignment, mark where it will go.
Apply silicone adhesive or sealant around the base where it will sit, put the basin in place and press down gently. Use a level to confirm.
Connect the pop-up waste and taps according to manufacturer’s instructions. Turn water on and test for any leaks. Tip: Keep the bench surface stable and sealed so that water doesn’t seep underneath the basin.
These are the more traditional type: the basin sits on a pedestal or is set into a vanity cabinet. They’re great for storage (if vanity unit) or minimalist’s choice (if pedestal). A good guide states they’re relatively straightforward if plumbing doesn’t need major rerouting.
If you’re fitting to an existing plumbing set-up, ensure the water supply and waste pipe align with the new basin.
Fix the pedestal (or vanity) first, ensuring it’s level. Then position the basin on top or into the unit. Mark fixing holes.
Drill, plug and fix the basin to the wall (if required) and/or to the vanity. Seal the edges with silicone.
Fit the tap, connect waste and flexible hoses, then turn on water to test. Tip: If you’re reusing old plumbing, check condition of pipes and traps. It’s often easier to replace old bits at the same time.
Colour: Black bathroom sink
Type: Round bathroom sink
Material: Natural stone sink
