How do auctions work?
How can I participate in an auction?
To be able to participate in an auction you need to be logged in to your account and have an auction nickname. When you already have an account, but have not chosen an auction nickname, yet, you will be asked to create a nickname when you place your first bid.
Your auction nickname will be shown when you bid on an auction. The auction nickname is publicly shown in the bids history, you can access it by clicking on the link below the bid now button that displays the number of bids.
How to bid on an auction
Everyone wants to win, but only at the right price. Although we suggest that you bid the maximum amount that you’re willing to pay for an item, you could pay less. As the listing proceeds, we compare your bid to those of other bidders. When you’re outbid, we automatically bid on your behalf up to the maximum bid you have entered. Your bid is increased by increments only as much as necessary to maintain your high bid position. Every time a bid is placed in the last few minutes of the auction, an extra minute is added to the auction timer.
Our automatic bidding system makes bidding convenient so you don't have to keep coming back to re-bid every time someone places another bid.
When you place a bid, you enter the maximum amount you're willing to pay for the item. The other bidders don’t know your maximum bid.
We’ll place bids on your behalf using the automatic bid increment amount, which is based on the current high bid. We'll bid only as much as necessary to make sure that you remain the high bidder, or to meet the reserve price, up to your maximum amount.
If another bidder places the same maximum bid or higher, we’ll notify you so you can place another bid. Your maximum bid is kept confidential until it is exceeded by another bidder.
The current bid for an item is $10.00. Neil is the high bidder, and has placed a maximum bid of $12.00 on the item. His maximum bid is kept confidential from other members.
Loraine views the item and places a maximum bid of $15.00. Loraine becomes the high bidder.
Neil’s bid is incremented to his maximum of $12.00. Loraine's bid is now $13.
We send Neil an email that he has been outbid. If he doesn’t raise his maximum bid, Loraine wins the item.
I want to change my bid
You can raise your maximum bid at any time. Just place another bid at a higher amount. If you want to lower your maximum bid, special rules apply.
Raising your maximum bid
You can increase your maximum bid at any time before the end of the listing. To do this, click "Bid now" on the item page and place your new maximum bid. You can't place a lower maximum bid. See below for what to do if you want to lower or cancel your bid.
To check the maximum bids you've placed, go to My account. Go to “My automatic maximum bids” on the left-hand side of the page. The next page shows details of all your bidding activity.
Lowering your maximum bid
You can't lower your maximum bid. You may be able to retract your bid. However, a bid is a binding contract and members are only permitted to retract bids in very specific circumstances.
Can I retract or cancel my bid?
When you place a bid on vidaXL, you enter a binding contract. However, it's possible to retract a bid before the end of an auction, but only in exceptional circumstances. Please contact our customer service for more information.
You made a mistake when entering your bid, e.g. $50 instead of $5.
The item's description changed significantly after you placed your bid.

I won an auction
Go to your shopping cart and purchase the item you have won. You need to complete your order within 3 days.
Please note that you can't buy the same article, unless you have finished the transaction of the auction you have won.
I won an item, but no longer want to buy it
A bid or purchase on vidaXL is considered a contract and you're obliged to purchase the item. However, if you feel that you have a legitimate reason for not buying the item, you can contact us and explain your situation.
In case we do not agree to cancel the transaction and you don't pay for the item, an unpaid item will be recorded on your account. If you get too many unpaid items recorded on your account within a short time period, your account may be suspended.
